Find Freedom in Forgiveness

Have you ever held a grudge? Or just felt crappy because someone said something mean to you? Have you ever been wronged in some way, or wronged someone yourself? These little (or big) resentments can really get in the way of living your happiest life. And letting go of them? It frees you to be the real YOU - happy, healthy, vibrant, strong and beautiful!

So how do you go about forgiving old or new resentments? Instead of trying to forgive everyone at once, you can start a daily forgiveness practice where you start small and gradually forgive bigger and bigger resentments until one day… there’s nothing much to forgive! You have a clean slate!

Here’s how you do it. Every morning or evening, whenever you have a few minutes to engage in a happiness practice (I’ll be writing lots about happiness practices in the future, so stay tuned!), you can sit comfortably, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then you simply call to mind something that’s been bothering you. It can be as simple as someone giving you a weird look or as messy as a long-standing fight with a family member. Start small and work your way up.

Pick one person or situation and see them in front of you. Say to them, in your mind, “I’m sorry for what I did to contribute to this situation. And I forgive you.” Then imagine them saying to you “I’m sorry for what I did to contribute to this situation. And I forgive you.” Let whatever feelings come up wash over you and through you and then let them go. Imagine a golden light washing over you and the other person. With it comes a sense of peace. You have forgiven them, and now you can move on. Tell yourself “Forgiveness is easy.”

I learned about this through Vishen Lakhiani's 6-phase meditation process. It has been really freeing for me! I hope you get to experience the same benefits. I’d love to hear your successful forgiveness stories - you can comment below, send a note through my contact form on the website, or DM me on Instagram @jenatharani.
